Founders Point Elementary Breaks Ground in Clark County |
New School to Serve Growing Jeffersonville and Charlestown Communities |
Construction has officially commenced on Founders Point Elementary, a significant addition to the Greater Clark County Schools district.
Set to open for the 2027–2028 academic year, this state-of-the-art facility will accommodate students from preschool through fifth grade, addressing the educational needs of the rapidly expanding Jeffersonville and Charlestown areas.
The two-story school is being built on historic land once owned by a local family, a site where county leaders say Clark County itself was first formed.
Superintendent Mark Laughner highlighted the significance of the location, stating, "You’ll see that the name of this elementary school is Founder’s Point. Well, the reason it's named Founder’s Point is because when you look at the history of this property, this was where the meeting was held to form Clark County."
Community members are enthusiastic about the new school.
Local resident Courtney Dant expressed her excitement, saying, "We’re excited, hopefully going to be in the kindergarten class. To know that he gets a brand new school when he starts. It’s part of the reason we actually moved to this neighborhood."
The project is part of a broader initiative by the district to modernize educational facilities without increasing the tax rate.
Superintendent Laughner emphasized, "We didn’t want to negatively impact the property taxpayers in the district. We’re committed to keeping the tax rate at $1.10, and we’ve done that for the last three or four years. We plan on doing that into the future."
As construction progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the opening of Founders Point Elementary, which promises to be a cornerstone of education in Clark County for years to come. |
