Anticipation Builds as New Facilities Set to Open in August 2026 |
Exciting developments are underway at Parkwood Elementary School, with the construction of the new building progressing rapidly since breaking ground in April 2024.
This state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet the evolving needs of our students and staff, featuring updated classrooms, enhanced safety measures, collaborative learning spaces, and improved resources.
In a significant move, the Houston County Board of Education has approved a rezoning plan that will unify Parkwood and Westside Elementary Schools into a single attendance zone starting in the 2026–2027 academic year.
This restructuring will establish Parkwood Primary for Pre-K through second grade and Westside Elementary for third through fifth graders, aiming to optimize educational resources and better serve the community.
As of November 13, 2025, approximately 179 Westside Elementary students from Pre-K to first grade will transition to Parkwood Primary, while 292 Parkwood Elementary students from second to fourth grade will move to Westside Elementary.
Community engagement has been a cornerstone of this project, with the district holding meetings to gather input from parents, administrators, and staff.
Stakeholders have been invited to review the proposed attendance-zone maps and provide feedback ahead of the board's final decision.
The new Parkwood Primary building is on track to open its doors in August 2026, welcoming students into a modern, future-ready environment designed to foster success.
We eagerly anticipate this new chapter for our school community and the enhanced opportunities it will bring for our students. |
