Scottsburg Honors State Championship Teams with Beechwood Park Court Dedication |
Community gathers to celebrate the 1989 Warriorettes and 2024 Warriors |
On September 6, 2025, the city of Scottsburg came together to honor its rich basketball heritage by dedicating the newly renovated basketball courts at Beechwood Park to the Scottsburg High School state championship teams: the 1989 Warriorettes and the 2024 Warriors.
The dedication ceremony drew a large crowd of fans, community members, and local dignitaries, all eager to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable teams. The event served as a testament to the enduring spirit and pride of the Scottsburg community.
Mayor Terry Amick addressed the attendees, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. "It's just a celebration of basketball right here where it began and where it begins for our children, our grandchildren to come up and carry on this legacy," he remarked.
The 1989 Warriorettes made history by securing the school's first-ever basketball state championship, finishing the season with an impressive 26-1 record. Their victory over Noblesville and Benton Central remains a cherished memory for many in the community.
Thirty-five years later, the 2024 Warriors added another chapter to Scottsburg's basketball legacy. They concluded the regular season with a 25-5 record and clinched the Class 3A title by defeating South Bend's Saint Joseph 67-57. This marked the school's first boys' basketball state championship, further solidifying Scottsburg's reputation in the sport.
The dedication of the Beechwood Park basketball courts not only honors past athletic achievements but also symbolizes the community's commitment to growth and development. As Scottsburg continues to evolve, it remains deeply connected to the traditions and successes that have shaped its identity. |
