White Flag Shelter Opens in New Albany to Provide Warmth During Winter Months |
Community Unites to Offer Safe Haven as Temperatures Drop |
White Flag Shelter in New Albany has officially opened its doors for the 2025–2026 season, offering a warm and safe place for those in need during the harsh winter months.
Operating from November 15 through April 15, the shelter welcomes guests from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on nights when temperatures fall below 35 degrees Fahrenheit.
Located at 4007 Grant Line Road within the gym of Culbertson Baptist Church, the shelter is a collaborative effort between the Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana and the Nomad Church Collective.
In a significant development this year, the Nomad Church Collective has assumed operational responsibilities for the shelter.
This partnership aims to enhance services and ensure the shelter remains a vital resource for the community.
According to recent reports, the shelter has been experiencing increased demand, with more individuals seeking refuge as temperatures plummet.
To address this growing need, the shelter is actively seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks, including meal preparation, check-in and check-out procedures, laundry, and general cleaning.
Those interested in volunteering can find more information on the shelter's official website.
For individuals requiring shelter, the White Flag Shelter Hotline is available at (812) 913-5368.
Additionally, transportation options are accessible via TARC routes and schedules.
As winter sets in, the White Flag Shelter stands as a beacon of hope and warmth for the New Albany community, ensuring that no one has to face the cold alone. |
